Our Match Report
North Shore headed west to play Worcester on their turf for the first time in over 5 years on Saturday. The weather was an absolute gem for a rugby game.
The Reds knew that they would have light numbers heading into the game so they were able to be graced by the presence of Conrad Bzura and Carlos Aquino. At kickoff we had 15 players at the field and luckily had 2 more lost souls find their way to the pitch after a quick stop at Worcester town Hall.
North Shore started the game firing on all cylinders. After 10 minutes they went up 10 points on Worcester thanks to some precision kicking from Justin and a great chase by Ryan, then a quick penalty kick from Timbo. Sully dotted down another try off of another beauty from Justin's foot. The Red's were able to follow Coach Nick Fry's game plan to a T for the first 15 mins but started to let Worcester back in when they started to waver. The half ended after another Ryan try off of some slick hands in the back line. Good guys up 15 points.
The start of the second half was Worcester's. Despite a pick to the house from Sully, Worcester was able to take advantage of a deep bench and some holes in the defense to battle back to take the lead. 5 mins left in the game the Reds were down 31-38. This is where Arif decided it was his time to shine, he found the corner with about 2 mins left on the clock. The boot was just out of reach for Timmy, leaving the score 36-38. We had 2 minutes to put something on the scoreboard and Arif "Magic Man" Taruz forced lightning to strike twice by running through the entire Worcester back line to score the go ahead try with no time on the clock.
North Shore wins 43-38!
Man of the Match went to Timbo Wilk who was a terror all over the field and also got speared out of the air on a 2nd half kickoff. Luckily "the blast threw him to safety" and he was completely fine!
Dick of the Day went to good old Andrew Hartigan who had the hookiest body on the team and "really didn't want to play hooker" then proceeded to bobble all the balls kicked at him on the wing.
It was a hell of a match, an absolute full team effort, and a match that won't be forgotten!
