Referee's Official Match Report

The first 15 minutes of the match was a defensive battle as both teams tackled effectively; neither threatening the other's goal line. North Shore was able to maintain possession, however, wore down the home club and began to break through Upper Valley's defensive line. At the end of the half, North Shore had a 19 -0 lead. North Shore scored in the first minute of the second half, to demoralizing effect, and added five more tries thereafter, mostly with their backs finding room to run.

Our Match Report

As the Reds rolled into the prematch they found themselves with a beautiful pitch and great conditions. Upper Valley had significant numbers and size so they Reds prepared for another battle. North Shore found themselves with the ball to start the match, running hard and making gain line consistently. A roughly lined field saw the Reds running out of bounds several times in the first 10 minutes, losing several chances to score. Fifteen minutes in Tim was able to dot down North Shore's first try of the day on the outside and the Reds didn't let off the gas from there. Twenty minutes in the Reds settled into a solid rhythm finding gaps in the defense, protecting the ball and swinging the ball out wide leading to two more tries by Conrad and Jeb. At half time the Reds led 19-0.

The second half saw much of the same, with some great running and offloading from the entire team. Upper Valley consistently kicked the ball to Vinny who would wrangle the ball and run right through three of four defenders, setting up multiple quick tries. Smart decisions by the pack led to quick ball to the backs, giving them plenty of time to read the defense, find mismatches and score. Ten minutes into the half the Reds were able to start putting their substitutions in. All subs played amazing, stand outs were Mike "Sunday" Sunde coming in and really stabilizing the scrum, Mike "Honeynut" Wilson taking control and making some great passes to the back line, and Brendan Logue getting his very first A side try. All around amazing day of rugby from every Red that made the hike up to New Hampshire! Final score NS 57, Upper Valley 0.

Upper Valley hosted a great drink up and chose Mike "I'm a Lock Now" Francis and Jeb "I Refuse to Pass" Nicklas as some well deserved Men of the Match. Mike ran hard every second he was on the field and adjusted to a completely new position, while Jeb did his usual magic and scored 4 tries on the day. To top it all off North Shore won a very competitive boat race, closing out the day with a big W all around.
