Referee's Official Match Report

A first game of the season for both teams and it showed at times. The field lining did not help with lines about 30 degrees off much larger lines of a practice field so off-side lines were very confusing. Nevertheless both teams played with energy and never gave up.

Our Match Report

North Shore fielded a strong side against vaunted rivals Old Gold to kick off the Fall 2017 season. A beautiful day in South Boston, on a field that might have been lined by Timmy after a handle of Jame-o. The Reds came out hard and fast (nice) going up 22-0 by half. The Red's backline was able to carve up OG's defense, attacking off of great set piece work by a new look pack. Our "bend don't break" defense was able to hold up 3 tries, valiant goal line stands by all 15.

Second half saw the Red's tack on 13 more points with a grown man run by Mahoney breaking hearts and souls of 3 or 4 OG defenders before slamming down a try with authority. Standout hooker, Vinny Fitzpatrick made a great support line to dot down his first try in the Red jersey in the 70th minute to extend our lead to 35-5. A solid way to open the season.

After brief moment of silence between both teams and supporters at midfield to remember 2 Old Gold players who recently passed away after a battle with ALS, the B-side 10's match kicked off. Vinny again with a stellar showing with a 35m break on the wing (unable to finish, but still a great run). Matt Latter with a brilliant chase down tackle on the wing to prevent a try, and popped back up to make the 2nd consecutive tackle was the defensive highlight. Solid showing from Mike Wilson in his first live action at scrumhalf as well.

After starting past seasons very slow, and all out headaches with trying to secure a practice venue it was incredible to see the boys come out firing on all cylinders to secure a well deserved victory against Old Gold.
