Referee's Official Match Report

Beautiful day for rugby in Stowe, sunny with a breeze kept the players comfortable. Mad River stole several lineouts and counter-rucked at the right times to prevent North Shore from maintaining possession for consistent periods of time. Tactical kicking by Mad River also led to a couple of tries early in the match, overall scoring three tries in each half, including a final 5 meter scrum pushover try in the final minute. Great spirit from both clubs.

Our Match Report

North Shore was treated to a splendid picture perfect pitch for its 1pm kickoff vs Mad River. NS in typical fashion got off to hot start and was able to sustain pressure inside the MR half. MR showed poise and was able to counter with some timely kicking to pin NS deep in their own territory. From here, several unforced errors and penalties blindsided NS and before they knew what happen, saw a promising start turn into a 17-0 hole.

For the rest of the game, NS was able put forth some brief individual efforts, but was never able to string together any consecutive plays to get on the score board. MR proved to be the better drilled team and was clinical in the 2nd half, keeping NS at bay and off the scoreboard. Final score 36-0.

As we talked about after the game, their is no question about the talent, skill, or effort on this team. Rather it is about putting forth the time and commitment for 4 hours a week at practice to build that cohesiveness as a club.
