The Reds are proud to offer Social Membership to all friends and supporters of North Shore Rugby.
Congrats are in order to NSRFC veteran Jesse Brewer who has just won the USA Rugby Division 1 championship with the Las Vegas Blackjacks. “Gollum” cut his rugby teeth with North Shore and spent many a night doing sprints at GE Field. Great to see one of our own representing NSRFC in style!
Registration is now open for our second annual 5k+ road race, online or via a printable form. The race starts and ends at Molly's Irish Pub at 173 Lewis Street in Lynn, MA on July 17th, 2010. Entry fee is $18 for adults ($20 day of), or $10 for runners 18 and under. All are welcome to join us at the post race extravaganza featuring pizza, beverages, refreshments and raffle prizes!
A big thanks to social member Mike Magee for donating a pair of tickets to the May 9th game, and a huge thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets. Chosen at random, the winner is Chris DiMaio. Congratulations!
The Amesbury Sports Park is very excited to invite you to a match on April 15th, 2010 between the Outback Barbarians Rugby Club from Australia and the North Shore Reds who finished as NERFU Division III runners up this past fall. The Corner Kick Pub will be open during the event, offering great views of the field from indoors as well as a tasty menu and full bar.
Founded in the early 1980s, the Outback Barbarians Rugby club toured the UK, Scotland, Europe, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. They disbanded in the early 1990s due to financial constraints, but regrouped in 2007. They selected no city players, rather, they recruited players who are associated with the land: farmers, cattle producers, miners, stock and station agents, carpenters, and laborers.
The Outback Barbarians tour is self funded by the players and a few key sponsors. Members pay for their own airfares, accommodations, bus charter, meals and beer. Sponsors assist with the playing kit. The Queensland Country Life Newspaper sends a reporter with the team to report on games and exploits (only those fit for print) for the benefit of their country readers.
The first match of their US tour will be at the Amesbury Sports Park. This will be the first opportunity for these players to play together as they come from all over Queensland and many will not have met each other before the tour begins. They will then go to Chicago, Moline, Sioux Falls, Sheridan, and then on to Missoula, Montana for the Maggot Fest to defend their title. The team pushes on to Elko, then to San Francisco for their final game. The tour concludes on the 8th of May.
The event is free and open to the public, and we hope that you can attend!
A chilly morning turned into a sunny day at the twin turf fields at the UNH sevens. Throughout the tournament a hawk pinwheeled over the pitches, signifying the relentless aggression with which the Reds played defense and, until exhaustion caught up with them in the last match against a skilled side, served to stifle every team which came against them.
Literary pretension aside, this was a good hard effort with a lot of heart and determined play led by captain pro tem Brandon Mahler, which bodes well for the coming year.

This Friday, come see NSRFC coach Dan Solomon's band, Laughing Academy, play at our sponsor bar, Molly's Irish pub (173 Lewis St, Lynn, MA 01902). The band goes on around 9pm; no cover charge.

We have indoor practice sessions at the YMCA on Cabot Street in Beverly (245 Cabot St, Beverly, MA 01915) from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday nights, which highlight fitness as basic manuevers; and sessions on rubberized turf at Strike One in Danvers (199 Newbury St, Danvers, MA 01923) on Saturday which focus on open field play and team strategy. …
Reds are New York-bound for Final Four playoffs this weekend
DANVERS - The North Shore Reds of the New England Rugby Football Union (5-1, second place Division 3, and 1-0 playoffs) defeated South Buffalo RFC in the 2009 Senior Man NRU (Northeast Rugby Union) quarterfinals, 29-22 at Pine Banks in Malden Nov. 14. …
After months of hard work, and a nearly flawless fall season, the NSRFC took second place in New England Rugby Men's Division 3. For the first time in team history, we had a chance for post-season matches. Despite awful weather and a last minute change of venue, the NSRFC defeated South Buffalo 29-22, in a hard fought NRU semifinal match.
Therefore, we will travel to Randall's Island, New York, NY to play Metropolitan New York's 2009 Division III champions, North Jersey. Kick-off is 11am on Saturday. A win means an 11am kick-off on Sunday, a loss means 12:30pm kick-off. Our second opponent will be either the winner or loser of the match between the Boston Irish Wolfhounds and Buffalo.
This is an official post-season match, which means check-in with picture ID for all CIPPed players on the roster will occur 90 minutes prior to kick-off. Plan to arrive at the pitch by 9am on Saturday to find parking and make your way to the field. There was a lot of construction going on and a general lack of signage when we were there this past spring.
For more information on the whole event, visit the NRUPlayoffs.org.
The NSRFC recently unveiled its new jerseys in an event held at co-sponsor Texas Roadhouse in Danvers. Thanks also to Smithwicks and Seaboard Products Company for their support, and the Danvers Herald covering the story.
An enthusiastic, committed turn out by kids and parents alike made the camp a runaway success. And to top it off, the first ever North Shore “Trailblazers” Youth Rugby team ran in twenty tries while conceding only nine in four games, at the Fourth Annual New England Youth Rugby Jamboree at Mystic River RFC, Malden. This is a tournament which emphasizes fair play and open running rugby in a “no trophy competition”, and was thoroughly enjoyable for all who particpated - coaches, parents, referees, and the excellent young players!
Thanks to Dean & Marie Murphy for taking lots of photos at the Jamboree. Thanks also to the Town of Danvers Recreation Department for allow us to train in Plains Park.
Thank you and congratulations to all who ran or helped with our innaugural road race on July 11th, 2009. We hope you'll all join us again next year.
The official results are available here on the New England Runner website, and some pictures from the day are available here. If anyone would like a larger version, please contact us. Additional photos are available from Jim Rhoades.
