Our Match Report

On Saturday, the Red's of North Shore met Charles River for the 3rd place playoff match. As the saying goes, "April Showers bring standing water and mud pits on the local rugby pitch", GE was not sparred from this, in fact GE excelled in accumulating puddles of standing water and inches of bone chilling mud. A partly cloudy day with gusting winds would have dictated an all around slug-fest, one that NSRFC was happy to oblige. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, the back line was having no trouble getting their feet under them in the precarious conditions, galloping through and around the opposition as if they were a week early to Churchill Downs. Jeb "Game Winner" Nicklas crossed the whitewash twice in the first 5 minutes of the match. The forward pack took like pigs to mud, able to both make gain line through their crash pods, and manage possession through classic, hard nose pick-and-goes. Finding them selves down 4 points nearing 5 minutes remaining in the first, Brian "War of Will" Estabrook took one of those pick-and-goes over the Charles River line. Heading into the sheds, the home team was defending a 1 point lead up 15-14.

The second half saw the Red's dominate possession, not allowing Charles River to score in the final 40. Bolstered by numerous subs throughout the 2nd half the Red's did not relinquish control of the match. Hank "Tax" Martin came in and filled in seamlessly to help the pack maintain dominance in the scrum. Ole' "Game Winner" dotted down his 3rd of the day in the second half ensuring NSRFC would secure a 20-14 win over the Rats, and secure a 3rd place finish in the playoffs. While this was not the match anyone was truly hoping to be playing in this past weekend, the boys came out and dominated the competition. On behalf of the captains, we would like to thank all the players, coaches, alumni, and sponsors for their continued support.

I would be remiss not to mention that this past weekend was the final League game for Ox "Gray Magician" Silva. Don't want to look foolish trying to pump up his tires anymore than the FB post already has, but I would like to say it has been an honor and a pleasure wear the Red jersey alongside you.
